Origin of the name: This vineyard was owned in the 13th century by the Canon of Beaune, Jean Bressand.
Soil: Pinot Noir is planted on a mix of limestone and clay, also sandy, on a bedrock.Slow ripeness thanks to the wind from the little valley situated at the top. As for Chardonnay in the upper side of the plot, it is planted in paltry marly sandy soil, and rests on a bedrock. White Beaune Bastion is composed of these grapes too.
